Press ReleaseSANDY, Utah -- Real Salt Lake today officially announced the acquisition of midfielder/forward Nelson González via a loan deal from Argentine side Quilmes Atlético Club. Per team policy, terms of the loan deal will not be disclosed.
González, who will occupy the fifth of Real Salt Lake's seven available International Player roster spots, will be eligible to make his Major League Soccer debut this Saturday, August 15, when the Utah side plays host to the Western Conference-leading Houston Dynamo at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy (7:00 p.m. kickoff, live on Fox Soccer Channel).
"We are excited to add a left-footed attacking player of Nelson's quality and potential," said RSL General Manager Garth Lagerwey. "He has made a good first impression since joining us and we look forward to his future here at Real Salt Lake."
González, who will don the #22 jersey for the Claret-and-Cobalt, becomes the third player added to Real Salt Lake's roster across the last month, following on the heels of the signing of M/F Rachid El Khalifi (July 28) and the trade that brought FW Pablo Campos aboard from the San Jose Earthquakes (July 15).
The 20-year-old Argentine spent his first two professional seasons with Quilmes in Argentina's second division (Primera Nacional B), making his debut on May 3, 2008 with his lone appearance of the team's 2007/08 season before playing in nine contests (one start) for El Cervecero in their 2008/09 campaign.
