HELPER -- Two teachers at the same small-town school are facing charges, accused of illegal sexual contact with students.
Both women had been working at Helper Junior High in Carbon County, until the Carbon School District learned of the cases at the end of July.
"It is our duty to protect students to make sure they have the best possible education, so we do take it seriously," Special Programs Director Robert Cox told KSL Newsradio.
Investigators say Melissa Andrini developed a sexual relationship this summer with a boy who may have been one of her students the previous school year. She has resigned.
Another teacher is accused of unlawful touching during the 2007-2008 school year. Cox says she is currently on paid administrative leave, pending the investigation.
Carbon County Attorney Gene Strate confirmed both cases are being screened by his office.
Meanwhile, there has been little unrest at the school, largely because it has been out for the summer.
District officials are weighing their options. "We do take it seriously, and when more information becomes available to us, we'll be able to take further steps as we deal with the situation," Cox said.
