BIG COTTONWOOD CANYON-- A delivery man narrowly escaped his burning truck up Big Cottonwood Canyon.
"It was the fear in his eyes that made me look at him and know we have a problem here," said Brandon Stevens.
The man had just made a delivery of stone at Brandon Stevens' cabin around 11:30 Tuesday morning.
Stevens was riding on the outside of the truck's cabin, guiding the driver down the road when the driver told him to bail out and that he'd lost his brakes.
Stevens jumped off and looked up just in time to see the truck slam into a tree and start on fire.
Stevens and his brother, who was close by, grabbed some fire extinguishers, put out the fire and helped the driver get out.
Stevens says it could have been a lot worse.
He said, "If it did miss the tree it could of hit that propane tank, another cabin ... It was a good way to end the accident."
The driver suffered some minor burns but should be OK.
