Jed Boal reporting Plenty of Utahns are on the move for the holidays. Many are already out on the roads and in the air. An estimated 600,000 will travel.

Some tips: Don't wrap gifts and show up two hours early. And remember, liquid and gel carry-ons must be three ounces or less - placed in a one quart ziplock bag - one bag per person.

More people will travel this year than last year.

Most of us - 80% - will hit the road and will likely run into snow or ice sometime during the next week.

Rolayne Fairclough/AAA: "When you're travelling in the winter, it's dangerous. You need to be well prepared when you go out on the road."

Make sure your vehicle is ready for that long journey. Check your transmission, brake and power steering fluids, Top off the windshield wiper fluid. Belts and hoses need a visual check. Tires can be the biggest issue for winter driving.

McNeil's Auto Care will tune-up a lot of cars this week.

Steve Richardson/McNeil's Auto Care: "They think that their tires are better than they are. You can come in and find out how much life expectancy you have on your tires."

Most newer cars are pretty reliable, but need attention before a big trip.

An emergency kit is a good idea in our region.

Drowsy driving contributes to a high percentage of our crashes in Utah, so make sure you get plenty of rest and give yourself plenty of time.
