A man is in the hospital after a stabbing at a family outing. Children are among the witnesses to a brutal fight and a stabbing at a West Valley City park. KSL Newsradio's Andrew Adams has more for Utah's Morning News.
Police say it appears the attack is gang related. Investigators say two brothers were with eight other family members, including small children, at Hunter Park (3600 S. 6000 West) Wednesday night. Several men approached them around 9:45 p.m. and called the two brothers out by name, wanting to fight.
Lt. John Coyle of the West Valley City Police Department said, "Apparently several of the males involved in the fight came from different areas of the park and were carrying weapons such as baseball bats and golf clubs."
Coyle say the attackers assaulted the two brothers, beating one of them with the baseball bats and golf clubs. At some point during the attack, the 25-year-old brother was stabbed multiple times. He was taken to a local hospital in serious condition.
Police say after the attack, the suspects -- who range in age from 18-25 -- fled the park on foot. Officers set up a perimeter in the area. K-9 units and the Metro Gang Unit looked for the attackers throughout the night but they managed to escape.
Investigators say the attack appears to be gang-related because all of the attackers were wearing red and black. They say if the men are caught, they could face aggravated assault charges, possibly even attempted homicide charges.
