(KSL News) A dump truck caused a messy commute this morning but not because of anything that came out of his truck.
Instead the problem came because the driver had not fully retracted the truck's bin, causing him to hit traffic lights as he traveled down Bangerter Highway.
The truck put traffic lights at 31st, 42nd and 62nd south out of commission right in the middle of the morning commute.
Nile Easton, Utah Dept. of Transportation: "Those are some of our busiest intersections in the state. We can see upwards of 100-thousand vehicles a day going through there. So to have it down to a four way stop, it probably took people an hour or hour and a half to get through there. "
The lights were out for about two hours and crews tried to get through traffic to repair them.
Nile Easton: "We got out there as quick as we could. The big problem we had was getting through traffic like everybody else. So, we were trying to drive on shoulders and everything we could. Once we got on scene we were able to fix it pretty quickly."
Officials eventually stopped the truck and cited the driver. He will be charged for the repairs on the lights.
