SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Utah students are asking for more money for counties with large colleges so they can put up additional early voting stations and increase voter turnout.
Utah had among the lowest voter turnout nationwide in the November 2008 general election.
Andrew Jensen, executive director of the Utah Student Association, says voter turnout could increase, especially among young people, if deadlines were changed and additional early voting booths were made available.
He points to figures that show the University of Utah pulled in a record number of early voters last year, second only to the Salt Lake County clerk's office.
Jensen wants online registration dates to match those of in-office voter registration, which extend to 15 days before an election.
