SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Some state lawmakers aren't quite clear on Gov. Huntsman's flat-tax proposal.
They say the primary goal of tax reform is simplicity. They see the governor's overhaul proposal as pretty complicated.
Huntsman is hoping the state will offer a five percent flat rate. Huntsman's chief economist says the proposal is still under construction. He says it would be an extension of the two-track income tax plan that was passed in a special session.
While he works on the proposal, some lawmakers are making their own suggestions.
Representative Wayne Harper is the outgoing House chairman of the Revenue and Taxation Committee. He says cutting the flat rate to roughly 4-point-75 would benefit filers from all incomes.
He says it would also yield a bigger tax break than Huntsman's proposal.
