OREM, Utah (AP) -- The president of Utah Valley State College president wants state lawmakers to use some of Utah's billion-dollar tax-revenue surplus to grow his college into a full-fledged university.
President Bill Sederburg says it's an opportunity the community should rally around. He says he plans to lobby lawmakers for the funding -- and a name change for the school -- when the Legislature convenes in January.
Moving UVSC from college to university would take about 10-(M)million dollars.
That price tag includes hiring additional full-time professors and beginning graduate programs.
Utah's State Board of Regents supports the switch. Regents have requested 3-(M)million in seed money from lawmakers in the 2007-2008 budget.
UVSC serves more than 23-thousand students and offers 51 degree programs.
