SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Summer vacation is almost over for some Jordan School District students.
Monday marks the first day of the 2009-2010 school year for the 19,000 students enrolled in year-round elementary schools. Of the district's 32 elementary schools, 27 follow a year-round calendar. The schools serve the communities of Bluffdale, Herriman, Riverton, South Jordan and West Jordan.
District officials say teachers went back to work this week to prepare for the students.
Schools that follow the traditional school calendar return to school Aug. 21.
Established in 1905, the Jordan district has a total of 51 schools and 49,000 students.
