SALT LAKE COUNTY -- Sheriff's deputies had to help an elderly man down Big Cottonwood Canyon Sunday night.

The 71-year-old man was hiking with his family near Lake Blanche. Deputies say the group did not bring enough water, and the man became dehydrated.

The family tried for several hours to help the man walk down the mountain, but he was too tired. His daughter finally made her way down to get help.

Deputies helped the man down, and emergency crews took him to a nearby hospital. He's expected to recover.
