FARMINGTON, Utah (AP) -- Some tanning businesses are losing customers after Davis County said teenagers who want to be bronzed need their parents' approval.

The Davis County Chamber of Commerce is asking the county health board to change the rule. Instead of having parents accompany anyone under 18 during each tan, the chamber is proposing a single signature for all visits.

Brian Moser, owner of Tanning Oasis in Layton, said business was down 11 percent in September and 14 percent in October. His business in Roy in Weber County was doing much better.

"We are concerned that (the regulation) inhibits businesses because it requires the parent to be there every single time," said the chamber's interim director, Diane Townsend.

The rule was adopted in February. Davis County health director Lewis Garrett said he had no idea what board members would do with the chamber's request.
