WASATCH COUNTY -- A woman is dead after an accident on the Provo River. She was tubing with her granddaughter below Deer Creek Dam when it happened.

The woman, who is believed to be in her 50s, somehow got separated from her granddaughter.

Utah State Park Ranger Dawn Larson says the woman's granddaughter saw her signaling for help. Bystanders found her after the granddaughter lost contact and pulled from the river

They started CPR, but the woman was transported to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Her name has not yet been released, pending notification of family.

The Provo River is considered white water, so life jackets are required. The woman who died was wearing a life jacket at the time of the incident.

This is the third time rangers have been called to the Provo River this year.
