SALT LAKE CITY -- Salt Lake City police are investigating the possibility of gang involvement in a late-night shooting.
Officers responded to the Tesoro gas station at 2280 S. Highland Drive just before 11 p.m. Wednesday. They found a man in his mid-20s with several gunshot wounds.
It was the convenience store clerk who called police after the injured man slumped down near a gas pump.
The injured man told officers someone in a passing car shot him several blogs to the west of the gas station, but that's about all he's saying.
"He denies any kind of gang affiliation, but to characterize this as a random shooting is probably pretty unlikely," said Salt Lake City police Detective Dennis McGowan.
Police say the man was shot at least twice: once in the leg, once in the stomach. He was taken to University Hospital in critical condition.
Police are now looking for clues at a nearby home belonging to the man's friend.
