SALT LAKE CITY -- After listening to offers from a couple of NBA teams and teams in Europe, former BYU star Travis Hansen, who opted out of his contract in Moscow in the spring, has signed a two-year contract with Real Madrid.

Hansen calls his new team "the L.A. Lakers of Europe" because they do things first-class.

"I'm flying over there Saturday, and they're having a huge press conference introducing me on Sunday or Monday," Hansen said.

He says he turned down more money from Olympiakos in Athens to play with Real Madrid.

Hansen will bring his family over to Madrid in late-August, and his season with his new team starts Oct. 1.

Hansen also tells KSL Real Madrid recently cut former Utah Jazz point guard Raul Lopez, and he's excited to play against the Jazz when they travel to Madrid for the second game of their European pre-season trip on Oct. 8.
