NEPHI -- Troopers say drowsy driving caused a fatal crash on Interstate 15 near Nephi Sunday.
According to the Utah Highway Patrol, the driver of a semi was heading north on I-15 just after 4 a.m., when he suddenly swerved off the road and into the center median. The semi flipped onto its side and slid several hundred feet.
The driver, 44-year-old Alejandro Riebling of Springville, was partially ejected and pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers say he was not wearing a seat belt.
The crash forced the closure of the northbound lanes of I-15 for three hours.
