(KSL News) -- A Utah man's first ride in a helicopter may very well be his last.
Richard Harris' son-in law was taking him on a ride in his helicopter when they suddenly lost power up Holbrook Canyon.
The power came back, but canyon winds kept forcing the helicopter down, and they kept losing power and altitude.
Pilot Dave Ballard was forced to make a hard landing.
Dave Ballard, pilot: "I've received really good training. I knew what to do and luck was on our side so I was able to put it down."
Richard Harris, passenger: "Yeah I thought I was going to die. You definitely think of those things...when you are going down"
The helicopter flipped over after the hard landing. Harris and Ballard both made it out o.k. They were able to hike out and get help.
