UTAH STATE PRISON -- A woman convicted of killing her 2 1/2-year-old daughter outside Moab back in 2004 will be released from prison next week. The Utah Board of Pardons and Parole announced in a decision Friday that Wendy Bullock, 34, will be given parole.
As part of the conditions of her release, she was ordered into a halfway house with additional outpatient treatment. She was also ordered to take medications as prescribed.
Bullock admitted to killing her daughter, Sarah, back in 2004 after a severe episode of mental illness. At her parole hearing in June, she described "voices" and hallucinations that led her to strangle her daughter, believing that God wanted Bullock to send the little girl "to a better place."
Bullock also attempted suicide.
She pleaded guilty, but mentally ill, to child abuse homicide. She spent some time at the state mental hospital before being sent to prison. Her term would have expired in 2019.
At her parole hearing, Bullock said she has undergone counseling, therapy and is on a strict medication regimen.
Family members have said Bullock suffered from mental illness for years. The slaying prompted Bullock's mother to become an advocate for others who suffer from mental illness.
