Sam Penrod Reporting A milestone today at BYU for the latest building to be constructed on its campus.

The Gordon B. Hinckley Alumni and Visitor's Center reached it's highest point today.

It's a tradition in the construction business, to top off a new building when it reaches its final section of steel. But it also shows incredible progress on this building which has been under construction for less than six months.

The steel shell of the building is now finished, and today construction workers celebrated their progress. University leaders watched as the clock tower was decorated before being lifted by a crane up to its place on top of the building. Workers then attached the tower to the steel beams.

Overall, the building is three stories, and will also have a basement for a total of 80-thousand square feet.

King Husein, President, Span Construction: "It's a tradition in our steel industry that when you erect the last section of steel, it's a time to pause and celebrate with a ceremony and give thanks to the workers."

The building is being named for LDS Church President Gordon B. Hinckley. He helped to break ground for the building back on June 23rd, which was his 96th birthday.

The new building will be home to BYU's Alumni Association and will become the gateway to the campus.

So far, more than 63-thousand people have made a donation to help pay for the building's construction.

Work will now begin on the inside of the building. It is scheduled to be finished less than a year from now, sometime in the fall of next year.
