WEST VALLEY CITY -- A renter found his 73-year-old landlady face down in her backyard fish pond Sunday night.
West Valley City police say the renter walked into the backyard of the home near 3200 South and 2860 West around 8:30 p.m.
He discovered the woman lying face down in a fish pond filled with about a foot of water. The woman was not breathing.
The man called 911 and started CPR. When emergency crews arrived they were unable to revive the woman, and she was declared dead at the scene.
The woman lives with her husband, but he was not home at the time.
Police are investigating how she ended up in the pond, and exactly how she died. They say at this point they're treating this as a criminal investigation.
Officers have not released the name of the victim because they have not yet contacted the husband.
