SALT LAKE CITY -- A bizarre duel involving a fire poker and a steak knife resulted in charges for one of the men.
It was supposed to be a gun fight. A man near 700 South and Green Street on April 25 threatened to kill another man with a gun.
The Salt Lake Tribune reports the man being challenged had a steak knife in his back pocket, not believing his attacker would fight fairly. How he thought a steak knife would help him in a gun battle is unclear.
Instead of a gun, though, the 23-year-old attacker pulled out a fire poker. He gouged the other man in the face. Court documents say in return, that man stabbed his assailant with the steak knife.
The 23-year-old who used the fire poker was unconscious when officers arrived on scene. He is now charged with third-degree felony aggravated assault. The man he attacked suffered a puncture wound.
