Marc Giauque/Samantha Hayes ReportingTwo men are in jail for stealing a lot of merchandise from Park City's outlet malls. Deputies believe this was a three man operation. They have the driver of the vehicle and the man accused of shoplifting in custody, and they are looking for one more.
This time of year it can be hard to tell who is shopping and who is stealing. But something just didn't look right at the Park City outlet mall where deputies spotted a man inside the Old Navy store pushing a baby stroller.
They kept an eye on him and noticed a van waiting outside the store.
Deputies say the suspect grabbed racks of clothes, six hundred dollars in value, and stuffed the merchandise inside the stroller. It only took him a few minutes.
Deputies followed the suspect and the man driving the van across the street in the Smith's grocery store parking lot where they were arrested.
Deputies have seen this type of scheme before which is why they were at the outlet malls today.
Its part of what sheriff's officials say happens often, people coming here, from out of state, with the aim of robbing stores blind.
Sheriff Dave Edmunds: "Criminals, or would-be criminals, can come to the outlet stores here in Utah in Park City and they can hit a variety of merchandise and they can steal a variety of merchandise to take back down to the flea markets."
He's referring to the flea markets in Los Angeles.
It is believed that the men are in the country illegally.
Sheriff Dave Edmunds says undercover deputies stopped the men, but not until they'd taken more than a thousand dollars in merchandise from one store.
Edmunds says the men were planning on spending at least six days in the area.
