ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) -- The search continues today for an inmate who escaped from an understaffed Washington County jail over the weekend.
Police say 28-year-old Doyle Dockstader fled the Purgatory Correctional Facility's exercise yard on Sunday while a guard was attending to another inmate with a medical injury.
Officers say the St. George man then apparently stole a dark green Ford pickup truck, which was found the next day abandoned between Hurricane and Washington City.
Yesterday, a Mitsubishi Galant was reported stolen. Authorities believe Dockstader is linked to the theft.
Authorities say the jail has been understaffed for at least a year now. Officials say it's been difficult to fill positions at the facility.
Dockstader was in jail for domestic violence-related crimes
