Richard Piatt Reporting Like a trip the Governor took to Iraq in March, this trip is shrouded in secrecy for security reasons.
This trip also appears to be centered on visiting Utah's troops. I checked multiple sources today, which are giving conflicting information about whether the trip is to Iraq or Afghanistan.
Those same sources also say Governor Huntsman is traveling with a delegation that includes Oregon Governor Ted Kulongoski, New York Governor George Pataki, and New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine. Because of violence in both Iraq and Afghanistan, the Pentagon will only allow minimal information to be released.
Mike Mower, Governor Huntsman's Spokesman: "Governor Huntsman is currently participating in the trip with other governors. We are unable to talk about where they are traveling in the world for security reasons."
The Oregon Governor's spokesman told reporters the delegation left Sunday. The itinerary and return are also not being released.
Right now there are about 100 Utah National Guard personnel in Afghanistan, just over 300 in Iraq.
The Governor is expected to release details of the trip when he gets back.
