SALT LAKE CITY -- The makers of the Taser are defending their safety record after the death of a man who was tased in southern Utah.
Taser International says its product is one of the most studied devices in law enforcement today. Taser International Communications Vice President Steve Tuttle said, "More importantly, these studies also include approximately 100-plus human studies."
Tuttle says no device is 100 percent risk free, but he says it's safer than other options.
"Kicking somebody, having several officers tackle somebody once, canines, bean-bad rounds, baton strikes; all of those are much, much more dangerous," he said. Tuttle says officers go through many hours of training before they use a Taser.
