PROVO -- LDS historian and speaker Truman G. Madsen passed away Thursday. He was 82 and had been battling cancer.
Madsen taught at Brigham Young University for 37 years and wrote several books on Joseph Smith. He also directed the Jerusalem Center for Near Eastern Studies for a time.
He is survived by his wife, Ann, and four children.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Tuesday at the Provo LDS Tabernacle.
