Sandra Yi Reporting A 3-month-old girl died and police believe she was murdered. Court documents contain details of a confession.

The suspect and the baby share the same last name, but police aren't sure how they're related.

Neighbors say the man moved in to the apartment complex a few weeks ago. They say he acted like a proud father, so they never suspected anything like this.

Police tape on the apartment door is the only sign of a horrible crime involving a 3-month-old girl.

Merinda Price: "The mom was screaming. We could hear the mom crying a lot."

Merinda Price lives downstairs, and saw paramedics and police arrive Saturday night.

Merinda Price: "They came down and they had the baby like this. She was just sprawled out. She was palish blue color, so we pretty much knew that she wasn't going to make it."

Police responded to a 911 call from the apartment. Chief Val Shupe wasn't sure who made that call, but he says the baby was unconscious.

Police aren't saying much because of the ongoing investigation, but court records say Grover confessed to strangling the girl by tying a sock around her neck and tightening it, to get her to stop breathing.

His motive is a mystery, especially for neighbors, who often saw the suspect and baby together.

Merinda Price: "He always told us like, 'She's my love and my life.' He'd bring her down so we could see her and stuff."

State child welfare workers went to the home in September after getting a call about neglect, but they didn't find any serious problems.

The baby's mother is staying with a friend. Two other children from the home are with relatives.

Grover is in jail, charged with murder.
