SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Utahns are considered some of the most giving people in the country.
That's according to a new report from the Center on Wealth and Philanthropy at Boston College. It says Utah ranked third in the nation for charitable giving in 2004 in relation to the state's average household income.
According to the report, Utah residents gave $2.6 million in charitable contributions in 2004, or $3,405 per household. Nationwide, it says people gave a total of $198.9 million in 2004, or $1,753 per household.
The Boston College report also says about 50 percent of all charitable giving is religious giving. It specifically recognized members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, who are asked to give 10 percent of their income for tithing.
