(KSL News) A former leader of the Utah National Guard has died.

Retired General Maurice Watts led the Utah National Guard for about 16 years.

Watts oversaw the building of Camp Williams and the Salt Lake Air Base. He was promoted to lieutenant general when he retired, the only member of the Utah National Guard to ever reach that rank.

Flags will be flown at half staff today at all Utah Guard facilities.
