This is Fred Ball for Zions Bank, speaking on business.
According to statistics from the National Fire Protection Association, in 2007, 1.5 million fires were reported in the United States. These fires caused 3,430 civilian deaths, 17,675 civilian injuries and $14.6 billion in property damage.
Although most people would admit home fires are a valid concern, they would also confess to believing a fire is something that only affects other people. York Hayes believes education is the key to preventing the devastation a home fire can cause. Through his business, Wasatch Family Fire Safety, York seeks to help Utah families protect themselves from fire danger.
Wasatch Family Fire Safety provides MasterGuard fire safety equipment such as smoke and heat detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, fire extinguishers and escape aids. Two of the company's newest products include propane/methane gas and radon gas detectors. Although radon gas isn't related to a home fire, it is a potential danger for Utah families.
In addition to providing fire safety equipment, Wasatch Family Fire Safety is one of the only companies that places a major focus on public education. Families can attend free seminars taught across the state that cover topics such as developing a fire safety plan and fire dangers within the home. York says home fires are a valid concern and developing a fire escape plan can help guarantee everyone gets out safely when a fire strikes. Smoke and heat detectors are the company's top selling items, primarily because the experts emphasize the importance of early warning in a home fire.
Prior to starting Wasatch Family Fire Safety, York spent 12 years in sales. He became an independent distributor of MasterGuard products after discovering the product line, which led to the founding of his company in 2002. Wasatch Family Fire Safety has experienced steady growth over its seven-year history. It now includes 14 employees and serves all of northern Utah. York would like to continue the steady growth rate and branch into neighboring states such as Idaho, Wyoming and Colorado.
