SOUTH JORDAN -- A construction worker is in critical condition after being pulled into a concrete paving machine.

It happened near 2260 West and 10400 South around 6 p.m. Thursday.

Emergency crews say the road crew had just finished laying a section of road and were cleaning the machine. That's when the woman was pulled into the machine by its auger.

Co-workers quickly reversed the machine and pulled her out.

Nathan Morreale of the South Jordan Fire Department said, "They were obviously traumatized by the event. This isn't something that typically happens every day. We haven't had anything like this happen in South Jordan before."

She was flown to the hospital with severe injuries to her chest and stomach.
