(KSL News) -- Thanksgiving may still be a few weeks away but that didn't stop some Utah school kids from showing their gratitude.
Mimi's Cafe sponsored a Thanksgiving essay contest for elementary students. The restaurant received over 600 entries from Utah kids.
Contest organizers selected 15 finalists, who read their essays this morning at Mimi's Cafe in Layton.
"I am thankful for my mouth, so I can talk to people and share kind words if they are sad."
"I am thankful for the United States because that is where I live and I can make choices."
Three winners received a one-thousand dollar US Savings Bond as a prize. Mimi's Cafe gave all of the finalists another thing to be grateful for, an early Thanksgiving dinner! The restaurant served meals to all of the kids and their parents.
