Amanda Butterfield ReportingCaryle Young: "What animals, dirty rotton theives, ew! Naught naughty naughty."

This woman did not know her car had been stolen until police came to her door. By that time the vehicle was already an empty shell, stripped for parts.

It wasn't parked out on the street. The keys weren't left in it while it was running. In fact, if you car is in your garage, after this story, you may want to go and lock it.

It hasn't been a good day for Caryle Young.

It started at 7:30 this morning when Salt Lake City Police called.

Caryle Young: "The first thing she said was, ‘Do you have a Honda?' I said yes, she said, ‘Go look.' My garage door was up and the car was gone."

You heard right, her car had been parked in a closed garage.

Caryle Young: "I did have it in the garage secured, I thought."

But it wasn't locked. Police say that could have deterred the thieves.

Caryle Young: "We think probably they were watching and took the car. They were professional because they had jacked up the steering column to get right to it."

It was dumped a long way from her Midvale home. Police found it in Rose Park early this morning.

Det. Joe Cyre, SLCPD: "This is common everywhere."

That's the hard truth. If you drive a Honda be careful to always lock it, even if it's in your garage because right now it's the car of choice among thieves, for its parts. Those parts can make it as far as Mexico.

Det. Joe Cyr, SLCP: "There is a market across international boarders for cars that are stolen."

Who knows where Caryle's doors ended up? And who knows what her insurance will say about repairing the car? She's still waiting to hear back. But there is one thing Caryle now knows and wants you to know too.

Caryle Young: "Be sure and lock you're car when you put it in the garage."

There are a few clues those thieves left behind. Police got really good fingerprints on the car, and they left their tools in the back seat.
