In the economic news this morning is another reminder that consumer spending still hasn't taken off the way economists say it must for the recovery to really get underway. I wonder if it is a patriotic duty to spend money if we can afford it. No one expects people who have lost a job or who have serious financial pressure to spend recklessly but there is a large segment of the population with good jobs and are current on their house payment or rent who can continue to live normally with regard to buying goods and services. Consumer confidence is one thing, but consumer spending is really needed now. If we can afford it, let's go buy something!
