Since she started going out with me, my girlfriend has revived her interest in golf. She even met a group of gals who like to play on Mondays after work. They were playing this week at Nibley, a nice little nine hole course on 7th East and 27th South, but one of their foursome couldn't make it. The starter put a very polite and shy young, man who was playing as a single, with them. With a distinct british accent he told them his name was Tom. Obviously curious, they asked him where he was from and why he was in Salt Lake. He said he was from (insert accent here) the south of England and quite modestly that he played in a rock band. Yep, it was the lead singer for the brit-rock group Keane, Tom Chaplin, who were playing at Kingsbury Hall. Rock and golf are not an uncommon mix. Alice Cooper, Huey Lewis and Glen Frey are just a few of the rockers who are passionate about golf. Tom had to leave early but offered by girlfriend and her friends tickets to the show Tuesday night. That's how I ended up in the third row for an incredibly energetic concert by Keane. So to those who believe golf is a waste of time, I say HA!
