Sandra Yi ReportingA woman in search of the prescription painkiller Oxycontin robbed a pharmacy at gunpoint. Moments later police spotted the getaway car on I-80 and took two people into custody.
It all started at a Smith's Marketplace. Thanks to witnesses, it didn't take long for deputies to nab to people they say were involved in the robbery.
We watched this afternoon as deputies brought out the witnesses, and one by one they were asked to identify the woman who police had in custody.
Around 12:30 today a woman walked to the pharmacy in the store and handed workers a note. Deputies she pointed a gun at the clerk and demanded the painkiller, Oxycontin.
Workers did what she asked, but not before witnesses were able to get her description.
Lt. Paul Jaroscak, Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office: "Witnesses also saw the people leave, or the person leave, I should say. Gave us a description of that person and a description of the car."
Deputies spotted that car heading west on I-80 near 1700 east. A man and a woman were inside. Both were taken into custody.
Deputies at the scene told us the man owns the car. The license on the car was bent. Police tell us criminals often do that to keep witnesses from getting a license plate number, but in this case, the description was good enough.
The two were arrested and booked for aggravated robbery.
