(KSL News) -- A family landmark that once stood in front of a home in Salt Lake is moving on to greet guests at The Gateway Mall during the holiday season.

The Christensen family watched as its large Blue Spruce was cut at its stump and loaded onto a truck. The massive tree has been the backdrop of several family pictures for the Christensen Family; but the tree was too close to the house and its shallow roots made it a safety hazard.

Maria Christensen: "I couldn't bear the thought of cutting it down and I thought, if it has to go, it may as well go in a blaze of glory."

The tree arrived by truck to The Gateway Mall this afternoon. It will be set up in the grassy area next to the Olympic fountain.

The tree will then be decorated with thousands of lights, and will be officially lit on November 24, one day after Thanksgiving.
