LOGAN -- A 5-year-old boy died after being hit by a car at Utah State University.
USU Chief of Police Steve Mecham tells the Herald-Journal that a driver was backing out of a parking spot near the northeast building at the West Stadium Villa apartment complex around 6 p.m. Monday and hit the boy.
The boy, identified as Matthew Cole Larson, died later at Logan Regional Hospital. He was living at West Stadium Villa, a married housing complex, and was set to begin kindergarten this fall.
The 23-year-old driver has not been cited for the accident but the investigation continues.
A trust fund has been created at Zions Bank under the name of M. Cole Larson to help the family with medical and funeral costs.
