J.D. Folsom had so much confidence in being selected in the 2009 NFL draft that he has already been accepted into veterinary school. Well, those plans will have to wait.

The Weber State linebacker was taken in the 7th round (214th) by the Miami Dolphins.

"I'm just with my wife and my little girl and then my parents were down and we were just at my grandma's house in Salt Lake," Folsom told the media during a post-draft conference call. "We were just watching on the television and Miami called up and that's like that was the first I knew that I was going to get drafted."

His strong showing at the Wildcats pro day impressed the Dolphins enough to pick him. But even after Pro Day the draft wasn't in his plans and he expected to sign somewhere as a free agent.

"At the end of the season I really didn't and I just really trained hard in the off season and I did well at my Pro Date. So I really didn't think that I was going to get drafted."

Now, J.D. will get the opportunity to make an NFL roster.

"That's very exciting. I mean it's every guys dream to one day play in the NFL and so it's just a dream come true."

This is the third time in the last four years that a Weber State Wildcat has been selected in the NFL draft. Paul and Pat McQuistan were drafted in 2006 while David Hale was a 4th round pick in 2008.

Folsom is another in a long line of Snow Badgers who have made to the NFL. He played in Ephraim in 2003 before serving an LDS mission to Bolivia.
