Ashley Hayes Reporting Police recover stolen weapons in a late night bust. A citizen's tip and grocery store surveillance cameras led police to the guns.
Officers found a collector's prize guns and arrested the men they believe stole them.
The guns are military style weapons, ones police say they are glad to have off the streets and out of the wrong hands.
Last night police got a call from a Taylorsville resident who felt something strange was going on at Albertson's.
This morning police are giving credit to that observant witness.
Scott Miller, Taylorsville Police Department: "We're pleased to get these off the streets. We're pleased there are citizens out there who are concerned enough to provide us with helpful information."
Police believe the witness saw the men selling or trading weapons outside the grocery store.
Police used the tip to track down the thieves. They identified their suspects on store surveillance video.
They arrested one man in the parking lot with stolen credit cards and checks in his car.
Officers arrested another man near 2200 West and 4200 South with the guns. They believe that man intended to sell the four guns.
Scott Miller, Taylorsville Police Department: "We believe that they do have some market value in the criminal world. Under the circumstances it may be they would either be traded or sold for drug money."
Both men are booked in jail this morning.
Police say those guns are extremely dangerous and they are relieved to have them away from the criminal community.
The guns belong to a private collector and were stolen from his car at a hotel parking lot near the airport.
Police say the two men arrested have a criminal history and are booked on unrelated drug and outstanding warrant charges. They were restricted from having firearms.
Police also say two other people may be involved.
