SALT LAKE COUNTY -- A landslide forced the closure of Big Cottonwood Canyon late Tuesday night. Salt Lake County sheriff's deputies say the slide covered a section of the road, crossing both lanes.

The slide happened around 11 p.m. just four miles up the canyon near Stairs Gultch. It didn't take long for crews to clear the roadway, but they still discouraged traffic for a short time.

A second slide was also reported further up the canyon near Mineral Fork.
