LAYTON -- A dance competition that's "polarized" Davis County will be allowed to move forward next month.
There were some obvious concerns and understandable eyebrow-raising when county commissioners first realized the May event at the Davis Conference Center would be a pole dancing competition. So, they did a little investigating.
Food and beverage director Dave Hilliard says it became clear the competition is not what it sounds like. "It's not what you think of when you think of the two words 'pole' and 'dancing,'" he said.
In other words, less "Private Dancer," more aerobic training. "Watch gymnastics and you see what they can do on the rings and the poles and things like that. It was very similar to that." Hilliard said.
In fact, it's a whole fitness craze that's already become the new exercise at a number of Utah clubs.
