(KSL News) If you thought New York City was more dangerous than Salt Lake, think again.
A new report this morning lists the most dangerous and the safest cities in the country.
Of 371 cities, St. Louis holds the title of the most dangerous city in the United States. Violent crimes in the area surged nearly 20 percent from 2004.

The safest city is Brick, New Jersey, with a population of 78-thousand.

According to the poll, Orem is the safest city in the state, followed closely by Sandy.
Ogden, West Valley City and Salt Lake City are considered more dangerous than New York City, which ranks 145. In fact, Salt Lake is the most dangerous city in Utah, just three spots below Los Angeles.
The rankings are based on FBI figures released in June, compiled by Morgan Quitno Press. Only cities that reported crime rates are included.
