SALT LAKE CITY -- Nationally, homes sales are up about 5 percent over the past month; local numbers are rising as well.
A combination of a federal tax cut for first-time home buyers, a grant from the state for buying a newly-built home and interest rates dipping below 5 percent has really started to make a mark, according to Salt Lake Board of Realtors President Ryan Kirkham.
"We're up from February to January, which is really good news. And we're up 32 percent, actually," Kirkham said. More importantly, he says the median price is holding steady.
Kirkham says in Salt Lake County they're not selling homes at the same pace they were two years ago but the sales are moving toward a healthy, sustainable pace.
