Fugitive leads troopers on chase

HOLLADAY -- A parole fugitive is back in jail after leading troopers on a chase through Holladay Monday night.

Troopers say a metro gang officer spotted a stolen vehicle near 4500 South and State Street around 11 p.m. He called in Utah Highway Patrol troopers to pull over the car, but the driver wouldn't stop.

Troopers chased him to 1700 East and back to 700 East, reaching speeds of 70 miles an hour.

Troopers laid down spikes, which caused the driver to lose control and crash into a fence. He and a passenger got out and ran.

UHP Sgt. Keith Dockstader said, "Fortunately we had some K9s that were near. The K9 found the driver about a block away hiding underneath a vehicle."

Troopers say the suspect, Jesse Porter, has a lengthy criminal history that includes assault on a police officer, vehicle theft and fleeing. His passenger is still at large.
