KSL Newsradio's Mary Richards reportingWitches and black cats are not only appearing in retail stores around Utah, they are selling out. Halloween is the second-biggest decorating holiday next to Christmas, and it's coming close in spending.
The Village Christmas Shop at Gardner Village is full of cutesy and spooky Halloween decorations, that rival the winter holidays.
"We have halloween-scented candles, just like you do Christmas candles," said Kathryn Lever.
Lever says in the past three years, she's seen a huge boom in Halloween decorating and spending. "People do Halloween trees, just like they do Christmas trees," said Lever. "I've heard of spray painting trees and we have pre-lit trees that you can purchase, and all the ornaments to put on top of it."
Retailers say consumers will spend five percent more this year on Halloween than last, and nearly half plan to decorate some part of their house or yard.
