PROVO -- A Pleasant Grove man is in jail for attempted murder after robbing a man by beating him with a wrench and a hammer.
Three men went to a Provo apartment on March 5 looking for money, saying the resident, who knew them, owed them some sort of debt. The resident said no, so they pulled out a pipe wrench and starting swinging.
The victim tried to grab a hammer to defend himself, but the three took the hammer and started hitting him with that, as well.
Provo Police Capt. Cliff Argyle said the suspects tried choking the victim. They also tried to tie him up with stereo cables.
"The victim's trying to struggle to the front door so he can call out for help," Argyle said.
The suspects finally left with a laptop, prescription medication and a camera.
One suspect, James Davis, was arrested Monday, and police say they have good leads on the other two.
Court documents say the victim was hospitalized with severe injuries to the head and face.
