LOGAN -- One of 12 Utah State University students charged in connection with the death of a classmate has entered a guilty plea.

Grant Arthur Barney, 22, pleaded guilty to obstructing justice as part of a plea deal with prosecutors. In return other charges against him were dropped.

Barney was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity. In November one of the organization's pledges, Michael Starks, died after imbibing a lethal amount of alcohol.

Prosecutors said his drinking was part of a hazing ritual.

Ten other students still have charges pending against them. The Deseret News reports charges against another have been dropped.
