SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Public records advocates say a change backed by Gov. Jon Huntsman would limit the public's access to Utah's state records.

Attorney Jeff Hunt of the Utah Media Coalition says the governor's office and others on Friday moved to restrict access to certain categories of records.

The governor's office, along with legislative counsel, are seeking to amend House Bill 122, which deals with the state's public records.

Huntsman's spokeswoman, Lisa Roskelley, says the move is meant to clarify what is and is not protected information.

But Hunt says the proposed changes would tip the balance in Utah's public records law where the presumption is that records are considered public if evidence for and against disclosure are equally weighted.
