Alex Cabrero ReportingMurray police have a shooting mystery on their hands. The victim went to a hospital; doctors there called police when he arrived.
Sometimes stories have a lot more questions than answers. This one just might be at the top of the list. Murray detectives are still trying to figure it all out and the victim, still at the hospital, isn't saying much right now.
Investigators looked and looked and looked some more, but still there wasn't much to find.
Det. Jeff Maglish, Murray Police Dept.: "Basically, they're looking for any type of evidence that might've been left here at the scene, anything else that somebody might've missed."
Police know someone was shot at the Three Fountains Apartments in Murray. Getting to the bottom of it, though, hasn't been easy.
Det. Jeff Maglish: "We're very much in the preliminary stage of this whole investigation. So, until we get more information, that's about as far as we can get with this."
Here's what they know now. At about 3:00, someone shot a man in the parking lot. The suspect or suspects took off; the victim took himself to a hospital.
A woman, who didn't want to give her name, says she has an idea of what it was all about. She lives right near where it all happened and saw the victim yelling at people right before he was shot.
"He had a cell phone, and said, ‘I'm calling 911.' Then he showed the people in the cab he had 911 dialed, and then they started getting out on the curb. And then he had walked around the back of the cab, and said, ‘Don't get out of the cab and give me my f-ing money.' Then I couldn't see anymore, and I heard a gunshot."
Det. Jeff Maglish: "We're still investigating the cab part. That's stuff that we've, I'm not really sure of right now. I'm not even sure our investigators are quite sure if there's a cab involved or anything like that."
Like we said at the beginning, a lot of questions are still unanswered. Late Thursday night a detective told KSL they're following some leads they were able to get from witnesses, but nothing solid yet.
As for the victim at the hospital, he's out of surgery, but police haven't been able to talk to him just yet.
